Shadows Of Loneliness

“Today she woke up with a feeling of complete loneliness. She felt left alone. Nothing is going to change. Nobody will knock at the door. She tries to hide underneath the covers, but it just cuts off the air. The walls seem to close in.

Her soul is empty and does not feel like her. Her existence in this world got forgotten. The phone never rings. In her dreams, she is too early for a party waiting for people to arrive. She always wakes up before the happy ending.

She soaks in the tub with candles around her. It feels good the warm water but … doesn’t matter where she is … alone.”

We all feel lonely from time to time. However, the pandemic caused a unique kind of loneliness. It was forced on us. Our need for social contact and relationships ceased to be met. We got reduced to video calls and distance socializing. The warm touch of another human being became a threat to our health.

Some of us were better at dealing with it and others had a very hard time. It still feels surreal to me that my social life got reduced to a handful of people I trust and have the same standards regarding safety.

I believe it will take a long time once this is all over to go back to normal without feeling insecure or simply weird mingling with other people.
